Something to chew on

One of my friends and my mentor in this whole Blogging thing wrote a great article around a TED talk.  You can find the post here, and I recommend checking it out.  I’ll wait while you take in the post there, don’t worry.

Back now?  Great, I hope you enjoyed the post as much as I did.  Even if you’re not into the blogging as a source of income thing, I think it’s an interesting point to look at.  80% of us, myself included, hate our jobs.  I’d always been raised that it’s one of those sad facts, work is work and if you enjoyed it it wouldn’t be called work, but is that really true, or is that just the lie we’ve let ourselves be taught to believe?

Heavy stuff to think about, but it rings true to me at least.  Personally, I like to think of myself as a thinker and a storyteller, those are my passions really.  Well, that and video gaming, but that’s a subject to broach another time, I think.  In either case, even this blog is really an extension of my storytelling and thinking.  Sure, I’m not writing whimzy fiction but rather my own thoughts, dreams and observations, but that’s still storytelling.  Some would say that much like how the truth is stranger than fiction, it also can even be harder to write.  In a way, it’s why I like to keep myself secret, even.  I am be more honest with you if I don’t have to worry about those words coming around to me later, after all.

But now we’re wandering from topic, as most rants do, I suppose.  Anyway, the point of this is to let you, my fair reads, look at the video that Joe linked and then turn it around and look at yourself.  Are you too just running the rat race because someone told you to, or have you found where you belong?  And if you are still stuck in the rat race like me, I wish you the best of luck coming free.  To those of you in that 20%, however, congratulations.  Hopefully soon, we’ll all be there.

Ja ne!
